Mais flores... Desta vez, com tecidos comprados na vizinha Espanha, num passeio por Sevilha... Os tecidos usados no centro são os "Basics from Moda" e fazem parte da primeira grande compra na net. Vieram daqui.

More flowers... This time with fabrics that I bought in Spain, the neighbour country, during a walk in Seville. The center of the flowers are from Moda Basics, my first big adventure in virtual shopping. They came from here.

Ainda sobre compras, estas foram recentes e foram feitas aqui. A única loja com materiais específicos para patchwork que conheço em Portugal... Infelizmente, situa-se a mais de 200 km da minha casa... Aproveitei uma ida a Lisboa para descobri-la. Não é grande, mas o atendimento foi simpático. Normalmente, costumo comprar tecidos quando viajo ou na net. Até gosto desta última opção, mas nada se compara ao entrar numa loja repleta de tecidos e perder tempo a admirá-los, tocá-los, combiná-los... Enfim, uma perdição...

About shopping... These are the recent fabrics that I bought here. The only portuguese shop that exists in Portugal... Unfortunately, its situate more than 200 km from where I live. I had to go to Lisbon, so I made a detour to go there. It's not big but the owner is a nice girl. Usually I add some fabric to my little stash when I travel or shopping in the Internet. I like the last option, but there is nothing like going to a shop full of fabrics and lost some time admiring, touching and combining them... Well, a perdition...

Jardim da Avó / Grandmother's Flower Garden

Depois de ter encontrado alguns trabalhos com esta técnica pela blogland, decidi experimentá-la. Como sempre, antes de iniciar qualquer coisa nova (pelo menos para mim!), consultei a "Bíblia" que, desde miúda, me habituei a ver a minha mãe seguir. E, claro, fiquei elucidada! Encontrei tudo muito bem explicadinho e segui as instruções: fiz o molde, reproduzi-o, escolhi e cortei os tecidos, alinhavei e cozi. Concluí que dá algum trabalho, mas é um projecto óptimo para ir fazendo...

I found many projects in blogland using this technique, so I decided to give it a try. As always, before starting something new (at least to me!) I consulted my mother's "Bible" for crafts. And I followed the full directions: traced and reproduced the pattern, choosed and cuted the fabrics, basted and sewed. It gives some work, but it's a fun and portable project...

Adivinham-se muitas outras e todas elas serão únicas, pois constituirão um quilt de memórias, em que cada pedacinho de tecido terá a sua história para contar. Os tecidos estampados destas foram comprados há algum tempo, em Dublin, numas férias em que visitámos a Irlanda. São especiais, pois foram os primeiros tecidos que comprei para patchwork e ficaram pacientemente guardados, à espera de um projecto especial... Vamos ver o que se segue...

I can see many more coming and all of them will be unique, because this will be a special quilt : each little peace of fabric will tell a story. The printed ones from the flowers above, for instance, were bought some time ago in Dublin, when we visited Ireland on holidays. They are the first fabrics I bought for patchwork and they patiently waited to be used in a special project... We will see what comes next...

Bag Swap e Prémios / Awards

Recebi ontem, com grande entusiasmo, o que me enviou a minha amiga secreta no intercâmbio organizado (uma vez mais com muito profissionalismo!) pela Linda! Desta vez, foi minha parceira a Brigitte, uma simpática alemã que vive na Polónia.
Enviou-me um magnífico saco inspirado num modelo japonês, feito a partir de um tecido construído por ela com pedacinhos de vários tecidos (alguns minúsculos!), a que chama "crazy fabric". Alguns bocados estão bordados de forma muito original. Um trabalho perfeito!Adorei!

Yesterday I received, enthusiastically, what my secret friend from the Bag Swap organized (once again very professionally!) by Linda! My partner was Brigitte, a nice german that lives in Poland.

It was a gorgeous bag, inspired in a japanese pattern, built in what she calls "crazy fabric", a fabric that she has made with lots of other facbrics (some of them little, little scraps!). She added tiny little knots and other stitcheries. A perfection! I loved it!

Junto com o saco, recebi outros mimos: chocolate e chá (deliciosos!), um lindo monograma produzido numa fábrica local, uma carteira de agulhas vintage e mais agulhas para a máquina. A acompanhar tudo, uma carta muito simpática! Obrigada Brigitte!

She also sent other goddies: chocolate, tea (both delicious!), a beautiful monogram produced in a local factory, an oldfashioned needlebook and other machine needles. With everything came a nice letter! Thank you Brigitte!

Neste intercâmbio, fui amiga secreta da Kathryn, uma australiana igualmente simpática. Enviei-lhe um saco em linho, com aplicações e bordado, ao qual juntei uns acessórios a condizer. A acompanhar, umas rendas portuguesas. Nas suas preferências, entraram as cores rosa, branco, verde e o estilo "Shabby Cottage". Aliás, este é o estilo dos trabalhos lindíssimos que partilha connosco no seu blog.

In this swap I was the secret friend of Kathryn, also a very nice girl. I sent her a bag with some stitchery and added some other matching stitching /sewing acessories and some portuguese laces. In her preferences: pinks, whites, greens, anything "Shabby Cottage". Thats the style of the beautiful projects that she shares with us on her blog.

Cupcake swap

A Sharon organizou um intercâmbio no qual todos os artigos enviados deviam relacionar-se com o tema: "Cupcake". Claro que participei! Tive como parceira a Tami, que me enviou um magnífico Cupcake tricotado e um lindo saco com aplicações do mesmo motivo. O chocolate que se vê na fotografia? Era delicioso...

Sharon organized a Cupcake Swap and all the items should be related to the theme. I joined it, of course! My partner was Tami and she sent me a gorgeous knitted cupcake and a beautiful tote bag with more... cupcakes. The chocolate on the picture? It was delicious...

Para a Tami fiz um individual, no qual usei como tecido base um pouco de um que já aqui tinha aparecido (o de xadrez cor de rosa), pois foi-me oferecido pela Ximena num outro intercâmbio em que participei - veio do Chile, passou uns tempos em Portugal e agora foi morar nos Estados Unidos... Isto dos intercâmbios tem a sua graça... Fiz também um bloco de notas e uma carteirinha, tudo com..."Cupcakes", claro!

For Tami I made a table individual, where I used a little of a fabric already refered here (the pink chess one), that I received from Ximena in another swap I joined - it arrived from Chile, spent some time in Portugal and now lives in USA... Swaps are fun... I also made her a Sweet Notebook and a little pouch in cupcake fabric, of course!

Pincushion Swap

Ultimamente só tenho feito posts de intercâmbios... Antes de ter iniciado este blog, já tinha lido várias vezes na blogosfera que isto dos intercâmbios vicia... Achei estranho! Mas é verdade e cá estou eu a comprová-lo. Depois de participar no primeiro, já não parei... Penso que o fenómeno se deve a várias razões: a possibilidade de "conhecer" e de contactar com pessoas que valorizam as mesmas coisas que nós, o carinho que pomos nas coisas ao fazê-las a pensar num destinatário específico, para que sejam apreciadas por quem as recebe, a expectativa de receber uma surpresa... Enfim... esta conversa toda para dizer que participei no Pincushion Swap organizado (de um modo muito profissional!) pela Linda.

Lately I have only been posting about swaps... Before I started this blog, I read for several times on blogland that one can get addict to swaps... I found it a little strange! But is the truth and here I am to prove it. After I joined the first one, never stoped... I think there are multtiple reasons that justify it: the possibility of "knowing" other persons that appreciate the same things that we do, the process of doing something thinking about the receiver tastes, the expectation of receiving a surprise in the mail... Well, all this talk to tell you I joined the Pincushion Swap organized (very professionally!) by Linda.


Eis o que recebi da Cara: um bonito alfineteiro em forma de flor, muito originalmente ligado a um pequeno e delicado livro de agulhas, uns tecidos e botões. Adorei tudo! Obrigada Cara!

This is what I received from Cara: a pretty flower pincushion, connected to a little and lovely needle book, some fabric and buttons. I loved it all! Thank you Cara!

Para a Betsy enviei um alfineteiro Small Wonder Blossom, um modelo desenhado pela Annie Segal, o qual encontrei aqui. Nos mesmos tons, fiz também um pequeno livro de agulhas. Quis ainda enviar-lhe algo "made in Portugal", por isso juntei uns pedacinhos de reproduções das famosas Chitas de Alcobaça.

To Betsy I sent a Small Wonder Blossom pincushion, a pattern designed by Annie Segal, that I found here. I also made a little needle book and added something made in Portugal, some fabric knowned as Chitas de Alcobaça.

Jeans da minha vida / Jeans of my life

Quando uma peça de vestuário deixa de servir, tenho sempre relutância em desfazer-me dela, pois frequentemente imagino o que poderei vir a fazer com o tecido que a constitui... Na verdade, sou fã incondicional da reciclagem... Por essa razão, ao longo dos anos, guardei todas as calças de ganga que deixei de vestir (não foram poucas...), até ao momento em que decidi reutilizá-las. E deu nisto, o meu primeiro projecto de patchwork:

When a piece of clothing gets old, I always find really difficult to let it go or throw it away, as I frequently imagine what can I do with it’s fabric in the future. In fact, I’m a big enthusiastic of re-cycling… For that reason, through the years I preserved all the jeans I stopped wearing (not few…), until I decided to reuse them. This is what I came up with, my first patchwork project:

São os jeans da mina vida! Após algumas batalhas, o produto final foi uma colcha, mas poderia tê-lo transformado num tapete, tendo em conta a resistência do tecido... Bem sei que tem muitas imperfeições, pois funciono em regime de autodidactismo (com alguns conselhos da minha mãe e a estabelecer relações de amizade com a máquina de costura)...
Apesar de gostar bastante do resultado, fico apreensiva quando penso na reacção de alguma perita na matéria que se depare aqui com tanto amadorismo, mas temos que começar por algum lado, não é verdade?

They’re the jeans of my life! After some battles, I converted them in a quilt, but, due to the fabric resistance, I could also have done a rug. I’m really aware of it’s imperfections, because I´m a self-taught person (with my mother’s advices and establishing friendly relations with the sewing-machine)…
Although I really like the result, I get apprehensive when I think in some expert’s reaction viewing here such a big amateurism, but we have to start with something, isn’t it?
