Novos livros / New books

Depois de alguma pesquisa e de ler sobre eles em alguns blogs que visito, resolvi adquirir estes livros. Têm sido "devorados" nos poucos tempos livres das últimas semanas...

O da esquerda é óptimo para aprender as diversas técnicas do patchwork. O do meio apresenta uma abordagem mais moderna e descontraída do tema, com interessantes propostas de trabalho.

O da direita é aliciante para principiantes, pois, a par de alguns trabalhos mais elaborados, oferece várias propostas de trabalhos rápidos e sem grande complexidade.

After some research and reading about them on blogs I usually pass by, I decided to buy these books. I've been reading them on the few spare times from the last weeks...

The one from the left is very good to learn the several technics of patchwork. The middle one gives us a modern approach to the theme, with some interesting ideas.

The one from the right is fascinating for beginners, with little, fast and easy projects.

Ainda só tive tempo para experimentar um dos trabalhos propostos. Esta é a minha versão do pequeno livro de agulhas constante no capítulo dos projectos que levam menos de duas horas a fazer. Diverti-me muito!

I only had time to try one of the projects. This is my version of the little needle books on the chapter about less-than-2 hour projects. I enjoyed doing it!

Sacos às flores / Bags with flowers

Há tempos, ao reorganizar o conteúdo de um armário, a minha mãe encontrou um velho lençol de algodão branco, já rasgado, e resolveu deitá-lo para o lixo. Sempre com um olho na reciclagem, guardei-o...
Com uma parte dele fiz estes sacos, que conto utilizar para levar em viagem e neles colocar a roupa suja. Serão muito úteis e substituirão os vulgares sacos de plástico habituais...
Para lhes dar “um ar”, desenhei umas flores ao acaso e aproveitei para treinar o ponto grilhão, do qual gosto muito.

A while ago, when reorganizing the contents of a cupboard, my mother found an old white cotton sheet. As it was already damaged, she decided to put it away. Always with an eye on re-cycling, I put it back, this time on my cupboard…
With part of it, I did two bags to use for laundry when travelling, they will replace the ordinary plastic ones I use…
I draw some flowers and practiced a stitch I like a lot, it’s called “grilhão” (don’t know the english name…)

Mudando de assunto, a Eva deixou-me, no seu blog, um desafio com as seguintes regras:

1. Escrever um post sobre seis coisas sem importância de que gostemos.
2. Indicar a pessoa que nos escolheu.
2. Colocar as regras no nosso blog.
4. Escolher seis pessoas para continuar o desafio.
5. Avisar essas pessoas e deixar um comentário nos seus blogs.

Às vezes é importante falar-se sobre as pequenas coisas que, juntas, preenchem os grandes (senão os melhores...) momentos das nossas vidas...
Bem, para mim, seis coisas “sem importância”, entre muitas outras, são:

1. Passear na praia ao fim do dia.
2. O cheiro do pão acabado de cozer.
3. O céu azul do meu Algarve.
4. A descoberta de uma boa retrosaria.
5. Viajar e conhecer novas paragens.
6. As flores do campo na Primavera.

Deste desafio, cumpro as três primeiras regras à risca. Quanto às duas últimas, vou inovar... Se alguma das minhas visitas resolver aceitá-lo, basta dar-lhe continuidade no seu blog (e avisar-me, se quiser...).

Changing subject, Eva left me a challenge on her blog, with the following rules:

1. Make a post about six meaningless things that we like.
2. Name the person who challenged you.
3. Publish the rules on your blog.
4. Choose six persons to continue the challenge.
5. Let those persons know about it leaving a commentary on their blogs.

Sometimes, it’s important to talk about little things that, together , fulfilled the great moments of our lives…
Well, to me, six “meaningless things” are:

1. Walk on the beach by the end of the day.
2. The smell of recently cooked bread.
3. The blue sky from where I live.
4. Find out new "old" haberdasher’s .
5. Travel and meet new places.
5. Wild flowers from Spring.

From this challenge, I accomplish the first three rules. About the last two, I will innovate… If any of my visits decide to accept it, fell free to do it (and let me know about it…).

Jeans da minha vida / Jeans of my life

Quando uma peça de vestuário deixa de servir, tenho sempre relutância em desfazer-me dela, pois frequentemente imagino o que poderei vir a fazer com o tecido que a constitui... Na verdade, sou fã incondicional da reciclagem... Por essa razão, ao longo dos anos, guardei todas as calças de ganga que deixei de vestir (não foram poucas...), até ao momento em que decidi reutilizá-las. E deu nisto, o meu primeiro projecto de patchwork:

When a piece of clothing gets old, I always find really difficult to let it go or throw it away, as I frequently imagine what can I do with it’s fabric in the future. In fact, I’m a big enthusiastic of re-cycling… For that reason, through the years I preserved all the jeans I stopped wearing (not few…), until I decided to reuse them. This is what I came up with, my first patchwork project:

São os jeans da mina vida! Após algumas batalhas, o produto final foi uma colcha, mas poderia tê-lo transformado num tapete, tendo em conta a resistência do tecido... Bem sei que tem muitas imperfeições, pois funciono em regime de autodidactismo (com alguns conselhos da minha mãe e a estabelecer relações de amizade com a máquina de costura)...
Apesar de gostar bastante do resultado, fico apreensiva quando penso na reacção de alguma perita na matéria que se depare aqui com tanto amadorismo, mas temos que começar por algum lado, não é verdade?

They’re the jeans of my life! After some battles, I converted them in a quilt, but, due to the fabric resistance, I could also have done a rug. I’m really aware of it’s imperfections, because I´m a self-taught person (with my mother’s advices and establishing friendly relations with the sewing-machine)…
Although I really like the result, I get apprehensive when I think in some expert’s reaction viewing here such a big amateurism, but we have to start with something, isn’t it?

Arca de Noé (2) / Noah's Ark (2)

O fim-de-semana foi de descanso e passeio. Por isso, foi pouco produtivo, apenas bordei o motivo da Arca de Noé da Lynette, correspondente ao mês de Maio.

During the weekend I didn't work that much and only stitched the May pattern for Noah's Ark from Lynette.

Ao passear pelos primaveris campos alentejanos, pintalgados de cores magníficas, pareceu-me que este seria o cenário perfeito para as amorosas vaquinhas...

I also went for a walk in the spring fields of Alentejo, painted with magnificent colours. It seems to me that the sweet little cows would look nice on them...

Intercâmbio Rosa / Pink Swap

Participei, pela primeira vez, num Intercâmbio. Foi o Intercâmbio Rosa, muito bem organizado pela Titi. Como o tema indica, a cor foi o factor comum aos objectos da troca: tecido, botões e algo feito por nós.

Isto foi o que enviei para Espanha, para a Eva (fiz-lhe um fio com cristais swarovsky e um postal alusivo ao tema do Intercâmbio). Ela já recebeu o envelope e, segundo me comunicou, gostou de tudo, o que me deixa contente.

For the first time I took part in a swap. It was the Pink Swap, very well organized by Titi. As the theme suggested, colour was the link between the items of the exchange: fabric, buttons and something made by us.

This is what I sent to Spain, to Eva (I made her a necklace with swarovsky cristal beads and added a "pink" postcard). She already received it and I'm pleased that she liked it.

Arca de Noé / Noah's Ark

Decidi aceitar o desafio da Lynette Anderson e fazer a sua Arca de Noé, já que ela, gentilmente, nos oferece todos os meses um desenho para bordar.

I decided to accept the Lynette Anderson's challenge for Noah's Ark Stitchery BOM, as she kindly publishes a monthly free pattern.

São divertidos de fazer! Só ainda não me decidi acerca dos tecidos que vou usar...

They are fun to do! I´m just not decided about the fabrics to co-ordinate with them.
