Para celebrar o início das férias, inscrevi-me num workshop de patchwork e este foi o resultado do dia: um caminho de mesa.

A minha mãe, que ultimamente me vê às voltas e entusiasmada com os trapitos, também já anda muito interessada na matéria, por isso não foi nada difícil convencê-la a acompanhar-me. Tal como eu, adora aprender novas coisas... Este foi o resultado da sua primeira experiência! Nada mau!

Lately my mother sees me playing with fabrics all the time, so she is starting to grow interest on the subject and it wasn't difficult to convince her to also sign up and go with me. This is the result of her first experience! She did well!

Divertimo-nos imenso e adorámos o convívio com outras "doidas por trapos"!

We had a lot of fun and it was a pleasure spending the day with other "crazy for fabrics" women!

Pronúncia do Norte / North Pronunciation

O último fim-de-semana foi prolongado e, após várias intensas semanas de trabalho, que nem me permitiram vir aqui, impunha-se um pequeno descanso, mais que merecido. E descanso, para nós, é sinónimo de passeio! Desta vez, também sem grande planificação prévia, rumámos ao Norte... até ao Porto... Como sempre, fomos bem recebidos, comemos bem e divertimo-nos a fazer turismo cá dentro. O que estranho, sempre que vou ao Norte de Portugal, é a pronúncia e algum vocabulário que vou ouvindo pela rua... É que, apesar de sermos um país pequenino, a diversidade liguística é rica! E tenho a certeza que o estranhamento é mútuo, já que a pronúncia do Sul também tem a sua graça!

Last weekend was a long one and, after several stressing work weeks, that didn't even allow me to take care of this blog, we took a much needed pause. And for us, that means travelling! This time, and once again without previous planning, we went North... to visit the O' Porto city... As usual, we were well received, the food was great and we had a lot of fun. The thing I found odd is the pronunciation way and some vocabulary north people use... Despite being a little country, Portugal has a big and rich linguistic variety! And I'm certain that when north folks visit the south, they feel the same!

O Porto tem um encanto especial, com as inúmeras pontes que atravessam o Douro e a sua zona ribeirinha é única! Além de deambularmos pela cidade, desta vez visitámos Serralves, a moderna Casa da Música e, como bons turistas, fomos de barco, Douro acima, até à Régua, num passeio repleto de verde.

O' Porto has a special charm, with it's several bridges crossing Douro river and a unic riverine area. Besides walking through the city, this time we visited Serralves, the modern Music House and, has good tourists, we went on a river cruise by the Douro.

Arrumação / Storage

Há uns tempos, infelizmente, mais uma antiga retrosaria aqui da zona fechou as suas portas... Numa das últimas visitas, lembrei-me de perguntar se, além do recheio, também vendiam os móveis. Com alguma tristeza por parte de quem me respondeu, ouvi "Claro, vende-se tudo..." Então entrei em negociações com o dono e trouxe para casa dois daqueles móveis de linhas de bordar e, como bónus, um antigo metro em madeira. O estado geral dos móveis acusava muito uso, mas, sempre de olho na reciclagem e inspirada por algo semelhante feito aqui, meti mãos à obra! Com um mínimo de material extra (um rolo de papel de parede - para o exterior, cola específica, uma lata de tinta branca - para o interior, fita cola com dupla face e quatro rodinhas) andei entretida durante algum tempo... O marido também deu uma ajudinha!

Some time ago, unfortunately, one more old haberdasher's from the neighbourhood closed doors... In one of my last visits to the shop, I asked if they were also selling the furniture. They certainly did... So, I negociated the purchase of two threads storage cupboards, and as an extra, an old wood metter. The general condition of the furniture was the reflex of much use, but, with an eye on re-cycling and inspired by something I saw here, I started working. I bought some extra material (wall-paper and proper glue for the exterior, white paint for the interior, double face self-adhesive tape and four little wheels) and have ben playing for a while... Husbund also gave me a little hand!

Finalmente acabei... Agora já se encontram num cantinho cá de casa, onde faço as minhas experiências com linhas e agulhas. Estão sobrepostos, constituem um único móvel, e as rodinhas facilitam muito sempre que preciso de movê-lo. Acabaram-se as inúmeras caixas e caixinhas onde tinha as coisas guardadas e, sempre que precisava delas, não sabia onde estavam. Cada gaveta contém a respectiva legenda e tenho tudo sempre à mão.

Finally, it's finished... and it's in one corner from my home, where I do my experiences with needles and thread. They form one unit and the wheels make it easy to move from one place to another. The several little boxes where I kept the stuff are now out of the way, and everything is labeled drawers. Finding something takes only seconds!








Até a minha pequena colecção de rendas, fitas e galões encontrou um lugar próprio. Estão arrumadas em pequenos cartões legendados com a sua proveniência e a data em que fiz a aquisição...

Even my ribbon and lace collection found a proper place. I re-arranged them in little cards labeled with the date and store where I bought them...





Como elemento decorativo, acolhe um frasco de vidro onde guardo as antigas linhas com que a minha mãe, ainda pequena, aprendeu a bordar na sua primeira máquina de costura.

To decorate, on top stands a glass bottle where I kept all the old threads used by my mother, when she was a young girl, to learn machine embroidery on her first sewing machine.

Estou muito contente com o resultado final! Da referida retrosaria vieram outros tesouros que ainda não mostrei... Esses ficam para outro post...

I'm very pleased with the final result! From the refered haberdasher's came other treasures that I haven't showed yet... They stay for another post...

Natal em Maio! / Christmas in May!

É verdade! O carteiro cá da zona trouxe-me uns presentinhos! Até parece que é Natal!

It's true! The postman brought me some presents! It looks like Christmas!

Da Argentina chegaram estas delícias, enviadas pela Sandra. É que ela organizou um intercâmbio de Natal, em Dezembro do ano passado, no qual participei. Como não cheguei a receber o que me enviou a minha parceira, a Sandra, com muito profissionalismo e dedicação, não quis que eu ficasse sem nada e enviou-se um magnífico pequeno quadro com a inicial do meu nome e um perfumado coração. Adorei as lembranças e o carinho que ela colocou em cada uma das peças! Obrigada Sandra!

From Argentina arrived these goodies, sent by Sandra. She organized a Christmas swap last December, and I joined it. Unfortunately, I didn't received what my partner sent me, so Sandra, very professionally and with affection, sent me a wonderful painting with my initial and a beautiful scented heart. I loved everything and I can tell that it was made with love. Thank you Sandra!

Felizmente, o que enviei à minha parceira Amira não se perdeu e isto foi o que ela recebeu nesse intercâmbio. Na confecção do saco usei o modelo da Abyquilt.

Luckily, what I sent to my partner Amira was not lost, and this is what she received. For the bag I used Abyquilt's pattern.

De outras paragens (Havai), recebi também muito carinho. A Arlette colocou recentemente um giveaway no seu blog e eu fui uma das cinco felizes premiadas... Nem queria acreditar, pois visito-a frequentemente e fico sempre impressionada com a sua criaividade e talento. Ao abrir o envelope esperava encontrar uma das bolsas sorteadas, mas, para minha surpresa, ela vinha cheia de outros mimos! Chocolates, uma bonita bolsinha para jóias e dois dos seus originais chupa-chupas! Nem imaginam a minha reacção! Fiquei deliciada! Obrigada Arlette!

From Hawaii, I also received something especial! Arlette had recently a giveaway on her blog and I was one of the five lucky winners... I couldn't believe it! I usually visit her blog and I'm always impressed with her talent. When I opened the envelope, I was expecting one of the bags she was giving away, but, unexpectedly, the gorgeous bag was filled with other goodies! Chocolates, a little jewellery bag and two of her delicious lollipops! You can't even imagine my reaction! I was thrilled! Thank you Arlette!

Férias da Páscoa / Easter Holidays

Depois de duas semanas de ausência, o que tenho para vos contar? Que aproveitámos uns dias de férias e fomos dar uma volta... Como sempre, nada de grandes planos, tudo em cima da hora... Uma pesquisa rápida na net sobre voos e pronto! Decidimos revisitar a Holanda e, a partir de lá, dar um salto até à Bélgica. No aeroporto de Amsterdão, alugámos um carrito e lá fomos nós...

After two weeks of no bloging, what do I have to tell? Well, we took a few days off and went to Holand and Belgium. As usual, we didn't make big plans... Everything was decided in a moment... A quick search for flights in the net and done! At the Amsterdam airport we rented a car and there we went...

A Holanda é um país de que muito gosto por várias razões... A boa organização e capacidade de rentabilização dos recursos, as flores, o queijo...

I love Holand for a lot of reasons... The excellent organization and capacity of taking advantage of all the resources, the flowers, the cheese...

Em Amsterdão perdemo-nos entre ruas, canais, bicicletas...

In Amsterdam we got lost between streets, channels, bicycles...

Em Utrecht, além de uma encantadora cidade, encontrei algo que nunca tinha visto... Um grande mercado de rua inteiramente dedicado aos tecidos. Sim, tecidos! Já se imagina... uma perdição... Ainda por cima encontrei lá muitos dos tecidos tradicionais que me deliciam em alguns dos blogs holandeses que visito... Bem, lá ficaram uns "euritos", que uma pessoa não é de ferro... E dos mercados de flores? Sem palavras...

In Utrecht, in addition to a lovely city, I found something that I never saw before... A big street market entirely devoted to fabrics. Yes, fabrics! You can imagine... a temptation... They even had the lovely traditional fabrics that I've been admiring in some dutch blogs that I usually visit... Well, I couldn't resist and left there some euros... And about the flower markets? No words to describe them...

Em Muiden encontrámos o centenário e imponente castelo Muiderslot.

In Muiden, we found the centenary and imponent castle Muiderslot.

Demorámo-nos em Marken, uma pequena ilha que foi, durante séculos, uma comunidade piscatória e hoje encontra-se tão bem preservada que parece cenário de um conto de fadas...

We spent some time in Marken, an little island that, for centuries, was a piscatory village and today is so well preserved that looks a scenery from a fairy tale...

Em Volendam demos um agradável passeio pelo belo porto.

In Volendam we had a nice walk through the beautiful harbour.

No incontornável Keukenhof passámos uma óptima tarde. As sensações que este jardim efémero (só se visita durante dois meses) desperta são indescritíveis... Quando tento imaginar o Paraíso, é assim que o visualizo... Só os apixonados por flores, como eu, me compreenderão...

We spent a lovely afternoon in the magnificent Keukenhof. This ephemeral garden (only opens for two months), to me, is like Paradise... Only a passionate for flowers, like I am, could understand this thought...

Em redor, os campos de túlipas parecem obras de arte, quadros pintados com pinceladas certeiras de cores intensas...

In the surrounding area, the bulbs fields are like a work of art, paintings with vibrant colours...

E os moinhos? Eles estão por todo o lado a cumprir a sua missão de manter os níveis de água.

And about the mills? They are everywhere, accomplishing their mission of keeping the water levels.

No último dia em que estivemos na Holanda ainda nos sobrou tempo para uma visita a uma fábrica artesanal de queijos e de tamancos: uns, dispostos de modo a abrir o apetite, ouros, dependurados como chouriços no fumeiro...

On our last day in Holand we still had time to visit a traditional cheese farm and clog factory. Ones were exposed to open the appetite and the others seemed like sausages drying in the chimney...

Os últimos três dias foram dedicados à Bélgica. Rumámos a Antuérpia, uma enorme cidade portuária...

The last three days of our journey were devoted to Belgium.We went to Antuerpia, a huge habour city...

Visitámos a encantadora cidade de Bruges, repleta de canais...

We visited the charming city of Bruges, full of chanells...

Em Bruxelas, apesar da chuva, passámos um óptimo dia, onde me encantei com as delicadas rendas e, com algum exagero, almoçámos e jantámos chocolates!

In Brussels, despite the rain, we spent a great day, where the traditional laces were a delight and, with some exaggeration, we had chocolats for lunch and for dinner!

Ah, claro que vos mostro algumas das comprinhas...

And, of course, I will show you some of my purchases...

Enfim, uns dias maravilhosos, sempre a saber a pouco... Mas também sabe muito bem regressar a casa mesmo a tempo de almoçar em família no Domingo de Páscoa! Boa Páscoa!

Well, we had wonderful days... It also feels very good to be back home in time to have the traditional Easter Sunday lunch in family! Happy Easter!

Acabado! / Done!

Como já disse aqui, fi-lo para oferecer a uma pessoa especial. A minha mãe! Já lho entreguei e ela adorou!

As I told here, I made it for someone special. My mother! I already delivered it and she loved it!

Tecidos 100% Moda! Como utilizei dois pacotes de charms e sobravam os quadradinhos suficientes, aproveitei para fazer da parte de trás uma segunda face... Gosto de ambas... Para acolchoar, utilizei um dos brinquedos que a Kathy me enviou, o que facilitou muito esse processo... Adoro o resultado final e, sobretudo, as cores desta colecção de tecidos, identifico-as com a Primavera, a quem dou as boas vindas!

100% Moda fabrics! As I used two packs of charms and there were enough remaining squares, I did a second face at the back... I like them both... For the quilting, I used one of the toys that Kathy sent me and this was a much easier process... I love the final result and, above all, the colours of this fabric collection, they remind me of Spring, who I welcome!
