Dresden Plate Quilt

Começado em Agosto de 2011 e terminado em Maio deste ano... Devagar, devagarinho... E só agora arranjei tempo para selecionar as fotografias....

Started in August 2011 and completed in last May ... Slowly, very slowly ... And only now I had a little time to select the photos ....



Uma vez mais, recorri aos pré-cortados, dos quais tenho imensa dificuldade em fugir!

Once again, I turned to pre-cut fabric... It's very difficult to run away from it!

Segui as instruções que acompanham a régua e vi uns tutoriais na net...

I followed the instructions that came with the ruler and saw some tgreat tutorials on the net ...

Seguiu-se um bloco após outro...

One block was followed by another ...

Depois de aplicadas as flores no tecido base, demorei algum tempo a decidir a forma de unir os blocos. Depois de terminada a parte de cima, preparei as três camadas  e passei à fase mais complicada para a minha máquina de costura...

After the flowers were applied to the white fabric, it took me some time to decide how to join the blocks. When the top was finished, I prepared the three layers and went to the most complicated part for my sewing machine ...

Do fim-de-semana / From the weekend

SÁBADO: Para o almoço, colheita de chícharos da nossa horta! Sim, porque esta Primavera decidimos pôr mãos à obra e temos uma pequena horta... (Para quem não conhece, trata-se de uma leguminosa - lathyrus sativus - já pouco cultivada, porque pouco rentável, mas que nós adororamos...)

SATURDAY: For lunch, chícharos harvest from our garden! Yes, because this Spring we decided to work seriously on building a small kitchen garden ... (For those unfamiliar, it is a legume - Lathyrus sativus - not commonly cultivated, because unprofitable, but we love it...)

DOMINGO: Rumámos à quinta dos sogros, no litoral alentejano, para colher a fruta da época.

SUNDAY: We headed to the little farm of my in-laws, in the Alentejo coastline, to pick the seasonal fruit.

As suculentas nêsperas (denominadas magnórios em algumas regiões do Norte de Portugal)...

E para encher a casa de Primavera, a beleza e o perfume das rosas! A propósito, já aqui tinha dito que a Primavera é a minha estação preferida?

Terminada! / Finished!

Finalmente arranjei um tempinho para passar por cá! Estas ausências longas nunca são planeadas... É o ritmo dos dias e do trabalho que as impõe... À noite, já não me apetece muito estar de volta do computador e tenho aproveitado para ir acabando algumas coisinhas... A mantinha de hexágonos já está! Que tal?

Finally got some time to stop by! These long absences are never planned ... It's the rhythm of days and work that keep me away ... By the end of the day, I do not really feel like being back to the computer, so I have enjoyed the evenings and have been finishing a few things... The hexagons blanket is done! Do you like it?

 

Ficou colorida, sem dúvida! Alegrará a temporada de Inverno, quando as cores vivas ibernarem e derem lugar aos dias mais cinzentos!

Nova Aventura! / New Adventure!

Há muito que este livro da colecção da minha mãe me tentava... Trata-se de uma edição de 1986, da Civilização, que penso estar esgotada... A autora, Maria José Roxo, apaixonada pela malha arrendada de duas agulhas, além de um pequeno historial sobre a mesma, publica uma colecção de 83 rendas e respectivos esquemas... Trata-se, em minha opinião, de um verdadeiro tesouro documental, pois não conheço outra publicação portuguesa do género... Se puderem, vale a pena espreitar!

This book from my mother's collection has been tempting me for so long... This is a 1986 edition of Civilization, and I think it is out of print... The author, Maria José Roxo, shares her love for two needles kniting and, beyond a brief history of this kind of work, publishes a collection of 83 different patterns... It is, in my opinion, a treasure with great documental value and I know no other Portuguese publication of its kind ... If you can, it's worth peeking!

Ora a ocasião para ceder à tentação, surgiu da compra de dois novelos da marca Habu, de um fio fino e delicado (60%mohair e 40% seda). Grande aventura... Logo eu, que aprendi a tricotar quando era miúda, mas nunca aperfeiçoei os meus conhecimentos... Depois da difícil tarefa que foi escolher o esquema a tricotar, seguiu-se uma lição de interpretação do mesmo (dada pela minha mãe, claro, que já fez trabalhos lindos!), meti mãos à obra, enganei-me umas tantas vezes, desmanchei algumas voltas, mas persisti e devagar, devagarinho, lá gastei todo o fio e fiz um cachecol... Demorei algum (imenso) tempo!

The occasion to give in to temptation, arose from the purchase of two Habu skeins from a thin and delicate thread (60% mohair and 40% silk). I learned to knit when I was a kid, but never spent to much time improving my skills... After the difficult task of choosing one among the 83 marvelous patterns, I had a lesson from my mother on how to read them (who already made beautiful peaces!), and started my great adventure... Made a few mistakes, undid them, persisted and slowly, steadily, I spent all the thread and made a scarf... It took me some (a lot of) time!

Tem imperfeições, mas eu gosto do resultado...

O sabor, óptimo! E o aroma... Indescritível... O mesmo que, durante toda a Semana Santa, perfumava o sítio onde morava a minha vó materna... O regresso a uma feliz memória de infância!

The flavor? Great! And the aroma... Unspeakable... The same that, throughout Easter week, perfumed the place where my maternal grandmother lived... It was the return to a happy childhood memory!

Aprendendo... / Learning...

A arte de fazer pão... Foi assim que passei o dia de Sábado... Guiada pela minha mãe, que me ensinou o que há muito aprendeu com a sua mãe...

Primeiro a massa... Em alguidar de barro, como manda a tradição...

Enquanto a massa levedava, tratámos do forno... A lenha, claro...

O passo seguinte: tender o pão e deixá-lo repousar um pouco mais...

Colocá-lo no forno e esperar cerca de uma hora...

Finalmente, a parte em que todos participaram... A degustação, quentinho, com manteiga... O sabor? Nada que se compare ao do pão que costumo fazer em casa, no forno eléctrico...

Finally, the part where everyone was involved... The tasting... Warm, with butter... The taste? Much better than the bread I usually do at home, in the electric oven ...

Aiguille en Fete 2012

Tal como nos anos anteriores, a afluência foi muita... A organização estima que foram cerca de nove mil os visitantes diários... Talvez por isso o dia inteiro não tenha sido suficiente para ver tudo... Fotografar também não foi tarefa fácil... Apesar da multidão, foi um dia em cheio!

As in previous years, there was a lot of people... The organization estimates that the exhibition had about nine thousand visitors daily ... Maybe that's why the day was not enough to see everything... Taking pictures was not easy... Despite the crowd, it was an amazing day!
