Peppermint Pinwheels Quilt

Ao longo do ano passado, fui acompanhando os desafios mensalmente lançados pela Katheleen Tracy aos elementos do grupo Small Quilt Talk, que dinamiza no Yahoo. Mês após mês, fui-me encantando pelos pequenos quilts realizados... Comprei os seus livros (deliciosos!) e fui adquirindo alguns tecidos Civil War, os quais, apesar de muito diferentes daqueles que habitualmente uso, são muito interessantes. No início deste ano, quando me apercebi de que o grupo manteria a sua atividade, resolvi inscrever-me. É um grupo acolhedor e muito dinâmico, onde a partilha de informação é prática corrente, e está sempre receptivo a novos elementos. Até agora, tenho aprendido bastante!

Over the last year, I was following the monthly challenges released by Kathleen Tracy to the members of her Small Quilt Talk group on Yahoo. Month after month I was delighted by the small quilts made... I bought her books (great books!) and acquired some Civil War fabric, which, despite being very different from those I usually work with, are very interesting. Earlier this year, when I realized that the group would maintain its activity, I decided to sign in. It is a welcoming and very dynamic group, where sharing of information is current practice, and is always receptive to new members. So far, I have learned a lot!

Cá está o meu trabalho realizado para o mês de Janeiro, o Peppermint Pinwheels, um esquema gentilmente oferecido pela K. Tracy (aqui). Adorei fazê-lo!

The Great Granny Along Quilt!

Acabado! Iniciado em Julho do ano passado, mostrei os progressos aqui...  Esteve pronto para acolchoar alguns meses e esperou pacientemente... Finalmente, em Janeiro, arranjei tempo e coragem para a etapa final e cá está ele, acolchoado com linhas direitas (claro, porque não sei fazê-lo de outra forma...) e debruado a branco!

Finished! Started in July of last year, I showed the progress here... It was ready and patiently waiting to be quilted for a few months... Finally, in January, I took time and courage for the final stage and here it is, quilted with straight lines (of course, because I can not do it otherwise...) and finished with white binding!

Para a parte de trás, usei um lençol 100% em algodão, que comprei num hipermercado local... Foi uma solução mais económica e o tecido, além de bonito e adequado à parte da frente, é de muito boa qualidade!

For the back, I used a 100% cotton sheet,  bought in a local store... It was a more economic solution and the fabric, beyond beautiful and a  perfect match for the front, is of a very good quality!

Um grande obrigado à generosidade de quem organizou este Quilt Along! E também a esta amiga longínqua, de quem ganhei alguns dos tecidos que usei nuns quantos blocos!

Summer Star Sampler

No Verão do ano passado, resolvi seguir semanalmente o projecto Summer Star Sampler, gentilmente orientado aqui. Embora o resultado final seja um mini quilt, o desafio foi grande (pelo menos para mim), já que cada bloco mede cerca de 4,5 polegadas e é constituído por peças pequeninas... Treinei a paciência e aprendi muito, sobretudo a valorizar a precisão necessária a um trabalho como este... Foram oito os blocos propostos, mas, como queria juntá-los de forma diferente da sugerida, fiz mais um, com o centro simples, que coloquei precisamente no meio... Tudo devagar, devagarinho, como vem sendo hábito!

During the summer of last year, I decided to follow the weekly Summer Star Sampler, gently hosted here. Although the final result is a mini quilt, the challenge was big for me, since each block measures approximately 4.5 inches and is made of tiny pieces ... I trained my patience and learned a lot, especially the value of precision piecing... They suggested eight blocks, but I wanted to join them differently, so I made one more, with a simple center, which is placed precisely in the middle ... Everything was done slowly, slowly, as usual!
