No final do ano anterior participei na famosa troca de Natal organizada pela Chookyblue, mas ainda nem percebi como é que ontem era Dezembro e hoje já é Abril... Mini Log Cabin Quilt

O desafio deste mês no grupo Mini Mania Challenge foi o de realizar um mini quilt com dezasseis blocos log cabin, usando tiras de tecido com apenas uma polegada de largura. É um bloco muito versátil e é difícil escolher o desenho final... Depois de algumas experiências....

Vintage Sewing Machine Mini Quilt

E cá está o desafio do grupo Mini Mania Challenge do mês de Agosto, desta vez usando a técnica de foundation piecing, ou seja, costurar usando o papel como guia. Já tinha experimentado esta técnica e até tinha achado coisa simples... Bem, em relação a este projecto não posso afirmar que tenha sido simples e acrescento que a frase emoldurada que o acompanha na fotografia foi uma constante na minha cabeça. Além disso,  o descosedor foi um amigo fiel... Se não fosse a minha velha teimosia, não teria terminado! A simplicidade do projeto é apenas aparente e é preciso concentração para todos os pedacinhos estarem no sítio certo, o que não é fácil com um pequenino de quatro anos sempre a saltar à minha volta... Mas lá chegámos ao fim e cá está o produto final! Só falta acrescentar que é um modelo gratuito de Charise Creates.

And here's the August challenge of the Mini Mania Challenge group, this time using the foundation piecing technique. I had already tried this technique and even had found it easy... Well, regarding this project I can not say that it was simple and have to add that the framed quote that accompanies the photo was a constant in my head. In addition, the seam ripper was a faithful friend... If it was not my old stubbornness, I would not have ended! Simplicity of design is only apparent and it takes concentration to match all the pieces, which is not easy with a little four-year always jumping around me... But we made it and here is the final product! Just need to add that it is a free pattern from Charise Creates.

Mini Ferris Wheel

Pois é, Julho passou a correr e, sem dar por isso, já passou um mês desde o último post... Bem, precisamente por ser o último dia do mês, cá estou para partilhar o resultado do desafio do grupo Mini Mania Challenge! Trata-se do Ferris Wheel, cujo esquema e tutorial foram partilhados aqui. É um projecto concebido com a técnica EPP (English Paper Piecing) e, por isso mesmo, tornou-se portátil e rapidamente o fiz. O resultado foi um pequeno e colorido quilt, que mede 11'' x 11''.

Well, precisely because it is the last day of the month, I'm here to share the results of Mini Mania Challenge group! It is the Ferris Wheel, whose pattern and tutorial were shared here. Mini Mania Challenge - Junho / June

Recentemente, aderi ao grupo Mini Mania Challenge, que tem como objectivo a realização de mini quilts, sendo o desafio mensal lançado no dia um de cada mês e o resultado mostrado no último dia do mês. Ora, hoje é o último dia de Junho (para onde voa o tempo?) e cá estou!

Recently, I joined the Mini Mania Challenge group, where we make mini quilts, so a monthly challenge is published on the first of each month and the results shown on the last day of the month. Today is the last day of June and here I am!

Este foi o resultado do desafio de Junho, em que devíamos usar o bloco chamado shoofly. Escolhi o formato 3"x 3", pelo que o pequeno quilt mede 11"x 11". Para se ver como é pequenino, fotografei-o com três pequenos botões ao lado...  Deu luta, pois o trabalho manteve-me afastada dos meus trapinhos e da máquina de costura e estava destreinada... A acrescentar, só arranjei tempo ontem, pelo que foi feito um pouco à pressa. Não ficou exactamente como queria, mas como estas coisas são para nos divertirmos e não para aumentar os níveis de stress, decidi aceitar as falhas e aprender com elas! O que interessa é que me diverti a fazê-lo e, como sempre, aprendi algo novo! Se gostam de desafios, passem por lá!

This was the result of the June challenge, we should use the shoofly block. I chose the size 3" x 3", so the final work measures 11 "x 11". To show how little it is, I photographed it with three small buttons... It gave me some troubles, because work kept me away from my fabrics and sewingmachine and I felt I was out of practice... Adding  to that, I only got time yesterday, so it was done in a little hurry. It is not exactly as I wanted, but as I quilt to have fun in and not to increase stress levels, I decided to accept the faults and learn from them! What matters is that I had fun doing it and, as always, I learned something new! If you like challenges, go there and have a look!

Amor à Ganga / Denim Love

Já aqui e aqui o tinha demonstrado! É verdade, gosto mesmo de reciclar calças de ganga que já cumpriram o seu dever enquanto tal. Em vez de as deitar fora, vou, aos poucos e poucos, aproveitando o tecido e criando estas peças ditadas pelo tamanho dos pedacinhos que vou cortando... Esta é mais uma manta de piquenique, uma actividade apreciada por todos cá de casa, que nos permite saborear os bons dias de sol em contacto com a natureza...

I already showed it here and here! It is true, I really enjoy recycling old blue jeans that  have already served their duty. Rather than throw them away,  I cut all the usefull bits of  denim and sew them to create  pieces like the one on the photo... This is another picnic quilt, an activity enjoyed by all here at my house, because we love to go outside and contact with nature in sunshining days...

Desta vez, aproveitei todos os bolsos que tinha guardado e coloquei-os em toda a volta, deixando que os pontos que normalmente têm criassem uma moldura decorativa.  Fui compondo o trabalho com quadrados de três tamanhos diferentes e até o remate final (binding) foi feito utilizando vários pedaços de tecido, como se vê na foto.

This time, I used every pocket  I had saved and placed them all around, letting the various stitches create a decorative frame. I  pieced it with squares of three different sizes and even the binding was made using several pieces of fabric, as seen in the photo.

Nas fotos nota-se que está um pouco amarrotado, pois a sessão fotográfica aconteceu após a sua estreia, num piquenique junto a uma barragem. Foi experimentado e aprovado por todos!

You can see that it is a little bit wrinkled, because the photo shoot took place after his debut, in a picnic near a dam. It has been tried and approved by all of us!

É um quilt primaveril e as rosas que o emolduram são das que florescem naturalmente na Primavera, à beira de algumas estradas do nosso país... pelo menos, aqui no Algarve.

It's a spring quilt and the roses that frame the picture are the ones that bloom naturally in spring,on  the edge of some roads from my country ... at least here in Algarve.

Arrumação... / Storage...

De vez em quando, a propósito do trabalho, recebo projectos editoriais para avaliar que me chegam em caixas de cartão de boa qualidade e que tenho pena de colocar no contentor de reciclagem. Guardo-as e utilizo-as para arquivar papelada... Um destes dias, precisava de algo para colocar trabalhos em curso no meu canto de costura e lembrei-me delas, mas o  seu aspecto exterior não me convenceu e decidi torná-las mais bonitas... Forrei-as com tecido (panos de cozinha comprados num hipermercado!), usei fita de viés nos acabamentos e coloquei-lhes uma plaquinha para identificar o seu conteúdo...

From time to time, at work, I get editorial projects to evaluate that arrive in good quality cardboard boxes and I always feel sorry to put  them in the recycling container. So, I keep them to store paperwork ... One of these days, I needed something to store works in progress in my sewing corner and remembered them, but its external appearance did not convince me... Well, I decided to turn them more beautiful... Lined them with fabric (dishcloths bought at supermarket!), finished with bias tape and attatched a little plaque to identify its content ... 

Para já, são cinco, mas mais se seguirão... E o meu canto ficou mais colorido!

Contrary Wife Quilt

Em Janeiro de 2013, como já tinha referido  aqui,  resolvi participar no Small Quilt Talk Group, liderado pela Kathleen Tracy, cujo objetivo é cumprir o desafio por ela lançado mensalmente. Até Março, consegui publicar regularmente o que fiz, mas em Abril a vida finalmente proporcionou-me a concretização de um sonho há muito alimentado de uma esperança que já era cada vez menor e tudo o resto passou alegremente para segundo plano. Aos poucos, as novas rotinas foram-se instalando e fui conseguindo encaixar algum tempo para fazer pequenas coisas. Como não gosto de desistir do que começo, um a um, os doze mini quilts foram sendo feitos e aprendi sempre alguma coisa nova em cada um deles. Hoje, quase dois anos depois, mostro-vos o de Abril, cujo objetivo era utilizar o bloco denominado Contrary Wife.

In January 2013, as already mentioned here, I decided to join the Small Quilt Talk Group, led by Katleen Tracy, whose goal is to make the quilting challenge released monthly. Until  March, I was able to follow each month challenge, but in April life finally make a dream come true to my family, a dream that we had been nourishing from hope, a hope that was becoming less and less as the years went by. So, April was the month! Everything else was happily moved to a second place in life. Gradually, new routines were up and I could find some time to my quilting again... As I do not like giving up things, one by one the twelve little quilts were made and I always learned something new in each of them. So, today, almost two years after, I'm showing you the April challenge, whose goal was to use the Contrary Wife block.

DE VOLTA... / I'M BACK...

Este meu cantinho está há tanto tempo abandonado que nem sei se alguém ainda passa por cá... A falta de tempo tem sido a grande responsável pela ausência e por quase um ano sem qualquer publicação... Tanta coisa aconteceu... O trabalho sempre mais exigente, um filho a crescer e com quem apetece gastar o tempo livre, sim, porque o tempo passa muito depressa e é preciso aproveitar todos os momentos... Enfim, o ritmo da vida a tomar conta de nós... Vamos ver se consigo ir mostrando algumas coisas que fui fazendo, pois continuo a pensar que, com ou sem leitores, este é um registo útil e importante para mim, quanto mais não seja para memória futura...

Assim sendo, aqui está o resultado de uma nova experiência, um trabalho em cartonagem (cujas bases adquiri num workshop de três horas), seguindo o modelo e as instruções que encontrei neste sítio.

This little corner of mine has been abandoned for so long that I don't even know if someone is around any more... Lack of time has been the responsible for almost a year of absence and zero posts... So much has happened... Work is always more demanding, my sun is growing fast and I want to spend most of my free time with him, yes, because time passes very quickly and I feel we need to enjoy every moment together... Anyway, the rhythm of life has been taking over...  Let's see if I can publish here some of the  things that I have been doing. With or without readers, this is a useful and important record for me, for future memory, and I will try my best to come here more often...

So, here is the result of a new experience. Crafting with cardboard, after acquiring the bases in a three-hour workshop. I followed the pattern and directions from this site.

Coelho Catita! / Easter Bunny!

Nesta Páscoa, as guloseimas foram entregues por este coelhinho catita, feito num workshop em que participei, dinamizado pela sua criadora. Fez as delícias do pequenote cá de casa, juntamente com os chocolatinhos, claro!

This Easter, the goodies were delivered by this quaint little bunny, made in a workshop I attended, spurred on by its creator. He made the delight of my little guy, along with the chocolates, of course!

African Flower Blanket

Primeiro, fiz uma flor, só para ver se gostava... Não só gostei, como fiquei entusiasmada! Depois, fui à loja e comprei o material... Uma etapa sempre divertida e que se faz com gosto, tirando o efeito de leveza na carteira, mas isso é um mal menor, quando se regressa a casa com vontade de começar algo novo...

First, I made a flower, just to see if I liked ... Not only did I liked it, as I was excited! Then I went to the store and bought new yarn ... That's one step that is always fun, being the only negative aspect the effect of weightlessness on the wallet, but that's not important when you return home wanting to start something new...

Já não me lembro quando comecei... Sei que por esta altura já tinha começado...Fui fazendo... Uma flor agora, outra depois, e assim por diante... O monte foi crescendo...

Já sei, já sei, não se pode chamar tal coisa a um objeto tão pequeno, mas tem as dimensões adequadas ao espaço disponível no meu canto de costura e faz toda a diferença!

In this photo, it is still in progress, in my new design wall, built by dear husband, who satisfies me every wishes... I know, I know, you can not call such a thing to an object so small, but it has the appropriate size to fit the available space in my sewing corner and it makes all the difference!

Peppermint Pinwheels Quilt

Ao longo do ano passado, fui acompanhando os desafios mensalmente lançados pela Katheleen Tracy aos elementos do grupo Small Quilt Talk, que dinamiza no Yahoo. Mês após mês, fui-me encantando pelos pequenos quilts realizados... Comprei os seus livros (deliciosos!) e fui adquirindo alguns tecidos Civil War, os quais, apesar de muito diferentes daqueles que habitualmente uso, são muito interessantes. No início deste ano, quando me apercebi de que o grupo manteria a sua atividade, resolvi inscrever-me. É um grupo acolhedor e muito dinâmico, onde a partilha de informação é prática corrente, e está sempre receptivo a novos elementos. Até agora, tenho aprendido bastante!

Over the last year, I was following the monthly challenges released by Kathleen Tracy to the members of her Small Quilt Talk group on Yahoo. Month after month I was delighted by the small quilts made... I bought her books (great books!) and acquired some Civil War fabric, which, despite being very different from those I usually work with, are very interesting. Earlier this year, when I realized that the group would maintain its activity, I decided to sign in. It is a welcoming and very dynamic group, where sharing of information is current practice, and is always receptive to new members. So far, I have learned a lot!

Cá está o meu trabalho realizado para o mês de Janeiro, o Peppermint Pinwheels, um esquema gentilmente oferecido pela K. Tracy (aqui). Adorei fazê-lo!

The Great Granny Along Quilt!

Acabado! Iniciado em Julho do ano passado, mostrei os progressos aqui...  Esteve pronto para acolchoar alguns meses e esperou pacientemente... Finalmente, em Janeiro, arranjei tempo e coragem para a etapa final e cá está ele, acolchoado com linhas direitas (claro, porque não sei fazê-lo de outra forma...) e debruado a branco!

Finished! Started in July of last year, I showed the progress here... It was ready and patiently waiting to be quilted for a few months... Finally, in January, I took time and courage for the final stage and here it is, quilted with straight lines (of course, because I can not do it otherwise...) and finished with white binding!

Para a parte de trás, usei um lençol 100% em algodão, que comprei num hipermercado local... Foi uma solução mais económica e o tecido, além de bonito e adequado à parte da frente, é de muito boa qualidade!

For the back, I used a 100% cotton sheet,  bought in a local store... It was a more economic solution and the fabric, beyond beautiful and a  perfect match for the front, is of a very good quality!

Um grande obrigado à generosidade de quem organizou este Quilt Along! E também a esta amiga longínqua, de quem ganhei alguns dos tecidos que usei nuns quantos blocos!
