Tilda's Hugs and Kisses Quilt

O abandono tão prolongado deste meu cantinho não foi intencional... A intensa azáfama dos dias ditou as regras e definiu prioridades... Enfim, no final de cada dia, precisei de optar : dedicar pequenos momentos aos "meus crafts" ou passar mais tempo em frente do computador (além daquele que o trabalho exige)... Prevaleceu a 1ª opção e, devagar, devagarinho, fui fazendo alguma coisa... Agora, que finalmente chegaram as férias, tem imperado a preguiça!

Being absent from this little corner for so long was never intentional... The intense labour from every day dictated the rules and imposed priorities... Well, by the end of each day, I needed to opt: spent little moments with my crafts or spent additional time in front of the PC screen... The first option was the choice! So, slowly, I've working on some projects... Now, that vacation time is here, laziness is strong!

O que hoje vos mostro tem sido cozinhado em lume brando desde Fevereiro! Adoro os tecidos Tilda e, por essa altura, quando vi a nova colecção, lancei mãos à obra... O modelo, com adaptações (claro!), encontrei-o num tutorial aqui e chama-se "Hugs and Kisses" .

Today I want to show you something that has been on my worktable since February! I love Tilda's fabric and, by then, when I saw the new collection, I had to use it... The model came from a tutorial that I found here, and it's called "Hugs and Kisses". I changed it a little (of course!).

Primeiro, a seleccão dos tecidos lisos para conjugar com os estampados e depois o corte. Como é visível nos quadrados cinzentos, marquei logo uma segunda linha de costura para aproveitar os cantos que sobrariam (já os usei noutro projecto, depois mostro...).

First, it was the selection of solids to go with the prints... After, the cutting process... As you can see in the picture, I marked a second sewing line on the grey squares, in order to save the leftovers to another project (I will show it later...).

Bloco a bloco, a coisa foi-se compondo... Como a minha costura de 1/4 de polegada ainda está longe da perfeição, quando ia juntar os blocos reparei que alguns não ficavam perfeitamente alinhados e resolvi o problema recorrendo ao "sashing", colocando tiras de tecido entre cada quadrado...

Block after block, I came to a good end... As my 1/4" seams are far from perfection, when I was joining the blocks, I noticed that some of them didn't match perfectly, so sashing was in order...

Na fase final, fui acolchoando ao sabor da maré e acabei por formar um desenho que se evidenciou na parte de trás... Os pontos ainda não são perfeitos, mas vai dando para o gasto! Diverti-me e isso é que importa!

When quilting, I just went on and ended up with a pattern on the back... My quilting stitches are a bit wonky, but I like the result! After all, having fun is the important!
